Oh Romeo, Romeo, where art thou, Romeo?
For the Juliets in attendance, you’ll likely find your paramour cutting a rug in the end zone at EverBank Stadium on Sunday.
Since Doubs’ open expression of disdain, reportedly an outburst that led to a one-game suspension, the squeaky wheel has gotten the grease. In his last two games against the Cardinals and Texans, the Packers wide receiver saw action on at least 76% of the snaps, enticed 14 targets and caught 11 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns. His reconnection with Jordan Love has all the feel of 2023, a breakout season in which he grabbed eight TDs.
With relationships patched up, Doubs’ re-establishment as a red-zone fixture in Green Bay’s explosive offense should continue. After all, it’s a matchup against the Jaguars, a junk defense that’s laid down and died repeatedly this season. Doug Pederson’s unit is rock bottom — No. 32 of 32 teams — in dropback EPA D. Also, Jacksonville has conceded the third-most fantasy points to WRs, giving up nine double-digit fantasy performances.
The resurrected Doubs should see plenty of the the Jaguars’ top cornerback, Tyson Campbell, in coverage. Campbell is a rock solid but not suffocating defender. On 76 coverage snaps, he’s surrendered only a 50.0 catch percentage and 9.3 yards per reception, but when the Packers knock on the end-zone door, Doubs is sure to get his opportunities.
If you believe Jacksonville will contain anyone, you’d probably also buy The Lumineers are a heavy metal band. Don’t be so gullible. At worst, the Green Bay pass catcher is a WR3 in 12-team formats in Week 8.
Capulets would agree.
Fearless Forecast: 4 receptions, 58 receiving yards, 1 touchdown, 13.8 fantasy points
Week 8 Bonus Flames
Ladd McConkey, WR, Chargers
| Start pct. | 23% on Yahoo |
| Matchup | vs. Saints |
Bourbon Street may run out of booze. Fan suffering inside the Superdome is driving everyone to the bottle. The Saints offense is a complete mess. And the Fleur-de-lis are blackout drunk defensively. For a Chargers team that’s only No. 20 in EPA per play offense, Sunday’s friendly matchup is just what the doctor ordered. Many Bolts could strike — including McConkey. The slippery rookie has become a Justin Herbert favorite on underneath routes. On a sky-high 25.0% of the team’s target share, McConkey has reeled in at least five passes in two of his last three games. Overall, he’s also an impressive No. 28 in total YAC. Slated to exchange glances with turnstile slot corner Alontae Taylor, McConkey could finish as a coveted WR2 or better. This season, Taylor has allowed an 80.9% catch rate, the 10th-most yards (338) and a 103.7 passer rating to his assignments. Throw in New Orleans’ collective No. 25 standing in pass EPA D, and the prosecution rests. Trust McConkey as a WR3 or FLEX option at a minimum in 12-team formats.
Fearless Forecast: 5 receptions, 59 receiving yards, 1 touchdown, 13.4 fantasy points
Cade Otton, TE, Buccaneers
| Start pct. | 29% on Yahoo |
| Matchup | vs. Falcons |
The injury imp is on the loose and wrecking havoc in Tampa. Devastating injuries inflicted on Mike Evans (hamstring) and Chris Godwin (ankle) last Monday against Baltimore has the Buccaneers in a state of disarray. Yes, the top wide receiver departures are seemingly irrecoverable, but the NFL is a next-man-up league. Jalen McMillan, Trey Palmer and Sterling Shepard are sure to receive an uptick in opportunity. Otton could benefit the most. The rising tight end is coming off his first 100-yard game of his career and is a likely top-seven fantasy fixture at his position for the rest of the season. It would be no surprise to see his per-game targets output routinely in the 7-10 range. Largely efficient, he ranks top-10 in YAC, deep targets and red-zone targets among TEs. The Falcons have yet to allow a receiving TD to a tight end in 2024, but they’ve given up a healthy 52.7 yards per game to the position. Given his expected workload surge and solidified rapport with Baker Mayfield, Cade is a highly cashable commodity in Week 8.
Fearless Forecast: 6 receptions, 61 receiving yards, 1 touchdown, 15.1 fantasy points
Season record: 10-10
