On Saturday, the annual fiery Ohio State/Michigan fracas resulted in the Buckeyes exorcising some demons.
Exhale, Ryan Day. Your job is safe — for at least this year. And, yes, we’re only half-kidding.
Partial joking aside, one of Day’s former backfield staples — coached by fellow OSU legend Mike Vrabel — should continue the O-H-I-O high Monday against the Giants.
It took him a while to live up to August expectations, but Henderson is delivering on his early-round promise. Entering Week 13, only Jahmyr Gibbs outperformed him Weeks 10-12. During the stretch, the former Buckeye amassed 324 total yards and five touchdowns. His No. 2 standing in YAC per attempt (5.02) over that span only heightens the hype.
His electric open-field burst has not only captured viewers’ attention. Breaking tackles and carrying piles, Henderson has shown flashes of old school Corey Dillon. That thunder and lightning display is precisely why Vrabel will continue to feed him 15+ times per game even with Rhamondre Stevenson back. Last week’s 70-30 snap split between the two backs is likely the new norm.
On Monday, expect Henderson to greatly benefit from the continued volume.
On defense, the Giants are marshmallows in the trenches. Through 11 games, they’re No. 32 in rush EPA D, surrendering an insane 6.24 yards per carry, 126.8 rush yards per game and 14 total touchdowns to RBs. In total, seven running backs have rushed for at least 45 yards and reached the pylons in the same game against them. They’re delightfully awful.
Given the generous matchup, his ascending play and the plus money associated above, we're firing a musket for the rising rookie on Monday.
