Edmonton Oilers (28-13-3) at Colorado Avalanche (27-17-1)
Date: Thursday, January 16
Time: 9:30 p.m. ET
TV: ESPN
After a good start to 2025, I’ve been dealt back-to-back brutal losses. You just have to ride the ups and downs even when you know it was a smart bet.
I’m back at it with a Western Conference clash in Denver.
The pick — Avalanche 3-Way ML (+130, BetMGM)
Speaking of ups and downs, Colorado has traded wins and losses over its last six games in a very tight Central Division race. Luckily for the Avs, they’re at home for Thursday’s matchup against Edmonton. The Oilers traveled from Minnesota after beating the Wild 5-3 on Wednesday for a third-consecutive win and seventh victory in eight contests.
The advanced analytics love Edmonton, which ranks No. 7 in goals for expected and No. 2 in goals against expected. The latter stat is one that’s rarely associated with an Oilers squad.
Despite all that, I just can’t shake the idea of playing the end of a back-to-back in the altitude of Colorado. I’m going against the hotter team, which is not my style, but I like the more desperate club at home in 60 minutes. Also, the Avs have a date with Dallas this weekend, so points will be vital for them.
