Colorado Avalanche (25-16-1) at Minnesota Wild (26-11-4)
Date: Thursday, January 9
Time: 8 p.m. ET
The Oilers took care of business in a big way Tuesday with a 4-0 victory in Boston.
Let’s keep the New Year’s streak going with Avalanche vs. Wild.
The pick — Wild ML (+120, BetMGM)
Both squads have been on quite a roll to make this a particularly huge Central Division showdown. Colorado had won seven of its last eight games before losing 3-1 to the Blackhawks in Chicago on Wednesday, while Minnesota had been victorious in six of its last seven contests.
The Wild aren’t just winning. They’re winning big.
Three of their last four victories have been by two or more goals, so the reverse puck line of -1.5 (+250) is very enticing. However, you’re still getting a home dog facing a squad that played the night before at +120 on the straight ML.
This will be the first of three matchups between Colorado and Minnesota. There’s no previous data this season to go on, but I like the side with more rest and better goaltending. The Wild are seventh in the NHL in goals allowed, while Colorado ranks 24th.
Season record: 15-12-2, +4.70 units
