We LOVE a full slate of WNBA games.
As the days heat up, the W is the perfect excuse to crank the AC, turn on the TV and get a bit adventurous with bets.
Let's dive in!
New York Liberty first-half ML at Connecticut Sun (-130, ESPN BET)
Those who follow my betting habits know I’m never one to overlook a good first-half bet. Sorry, but I want my money now rather than later.
The Liberty shine in this matchup not only because they excel in the first half but also because they’re hungry for redemption after a tough 83-78 road loss to the Fever. Over its last five games, New York is the top dog with a scorching 15.5 net rating in the first half, and this season as a road team, it leads the league in first-half net rating (10.2), which includes the best offensive rating (108.3).
The Sun simply haven’t been a great first-half club of late. Over their last 10 games, they rank seventh in first-half net rating (2.7) and have been shooting like Philip Seymour Hoffman in “Along Came Polly” with a true shooting percentage (50.7) that ranks 10th out of 12 WNBA teams.
Expect the Liberty to lock in after an embarrassing loss in Indiana and get us some quick money in a fun morning tipoff.
Atlanta Dream +6.5 at Chicago Sky (-115, BetRivers)
It’s been anything but a dream lately for Atlanta, which has now lost four of its last five games. But here’s a twist: Despite the defeats, the Dream have covered the spread in four of those contests.
A squad with a 1-4 record but a 4-1 mark against the spread? Now, that's intriguing.
I’m going to bet on Atlanta to keep the good ATS times rolling on the road. The Sky return to Chicago for their first home game in July, and teams coming off long road trips tend to stumble on their home floor.
The Dream have been playing opponents close, covering three double-digit spreads against the W’s best like Connecticut and New York. Now they have a shot at revenge against a Sky group that beat them in Atlanta last week.
With Chicago in a tough spot against a team that covers spreads as underdogs, I’ll happily take the points.
Seattle Storm +5 vs. Las Vegas Aces (-110, FanDuel)
- FanDuel offer: Bet $5 and get $200 in Bonus Bets
A dog? At home? This is simply hogwash. The Storm deserve more respect as one of the league’s best home squads.
At Climate Pledge Arena this year, the Storm hold THE BEST net rating (15.6) and a 9-2 record. As any NFL team that plays the Seahawks will tell you, it’s hard to win in the Pacific Northwest.
The Aces are a dominant club who beat Seattle 94-83 on June 19, but that just makes Wednesday’s game a sweet revenge opportunity for Jewell Loyd and company. And at home, the Storm’s defense really comes to play, limiting opponents to 28.3% three-point shooting and 74.5 points per game.
There’s no doubt Las Vegas is a tough matchup, but in Seattle, the Storm rumble through teams. Getting five points in this scenario is good enough for me.
WNBA season record: 8-7, +0.23 units
