Lynx vs. Liberty prediction: It’s up to you, New York

I’m donning a stylish top hat, renting the fanciest tux $30 can buy and pouring some scotch on ice because we're doing our best Frank Sinatra impression.

The pick — Liberty -5 vs. Lynx (-112, FanDuel)

That’s right. We’re riding with the WNBA’s best team in a revenge game at home.

After a Commissioner’s Cup final loss to Minnesota a week ago, the Liberty are ready to start their revenge tour in Brooklyn.

There’s no doubt the Lynx are playing some really good basketball. They’ve won seven of their last eight games and hold the second-best net rating (+11.6).

But do you know who has the best net rating? Good ol’ New York.

At 16-3, the Liberty have been the WNBA’s best team this season. Over their last five games, they hold a net rating of +11.8, which includes the league’s best offensive rating at 113.1.

However, in its last game against Minnesota, New York managed an offensive rating of only 89.3. Woof.

Simple math indicates that the Liberty will have a much better performance offensively on their home court. In fact, they lead the league in home-court offensive rating (109.1). So another lackluster performance is unlikely.

To keep playing the situational game — on top of the revenge factor — Tuesday’s matchup also will be the fourth road game in a row for the Lynx, while New York has been sleeping in its own beds for almost a week. Expect a road-weary Minnesota team to fade by the end of this one.
