GAME OF THE NIGHT
- Pittsburgh Penguins at Washington Capitals, 7 p.m. ET
Alexander Ovechkin over 3.5 shots on goal (-115, BetMGM)
Brandon Velaski — Ovechkin is the second-best goal scorer in NHL history. This could ultimately be the last time he faces Sidney Crosby in a Penguins uniform, so you know the Capitals captain is going to be motivated. Ovie has hit this over in the teams’ two previous matchups this season, and in 75 career games against Pittsburgh, he has averaged 4.68 shots on goal.
Capitals ML vs. Penguins (-110, BetMGM)
Lou Saccomando — This game has all the storylines a hockey fan would want. Crosby vs. Ovechkin is always entertaining. More importantly, this game could be a de facto elimination game for the last Eastern Conference wild card. The Capitals are tied with Detroit for the last WC spot, and the Penguins are only three points back. Washington has won two of three games in the season series. There’s no better way to snap a three-game losing streak than to do so against one of your biggest rivals.
MORE PICKS
- Boston Bruins at Carolina Hurricanes, 7 p.m. ET
- Colorado Avalanche at Minnesota Wild, 8 p.m. ET
Nathan MacKinnon over 4.5 shots on goal at Wild (-150, BetMGM)
Brandon Velaski — Yes, it’s a little juicy at -150, but MacKinnon has exceeded this number in five of his last six games. Colorado needs as many points as it can get to keep pace with Dallas, which leads the Central Division. MacKinnon is an auto bet when it comes to SOGs, and that will be even more true come playoff time.
SGP: Hurricanes ML vs. Bruins, Under 6.5 goals (+160, BetMGM)
Lou Saccomando — It’s another game of the night on the ice. The Hurricanes have won their last four home games and the only matchup against the Bruins this season, a 3-2 triumph at Boston in late January. Carolina is 8-1-1 in its last 10 games. I expect a low-scoring slugfest between these Eastern Conference favorites.
