Fantasy value - Braelon Allen, RB (ADP: 161.08, RB50) - Among projected RB second fiddles, Allen may play one sweet song.
In New York's first preseason clash, the second-year back only registered two snaps with the first-team offense. Breece Hall, as expected, led the way in the category with five. Some will view that as a negative sign, but the rumblings out of Jets camp the past few weeks have expressed otherwise.
Barely old enough to shotgun a Brooklyn Lager, the 21 year old rusher is in line for an expanded role. Writers walking the East Rutherford beat have labeled him one of the "breakout stars" of Jets camp. Intriguing.
The Jets offense could be more conservative than congressman Tommy Tubberville. Leaning on what should be a borderline top-10 defense, Aaron Glenn could institute an old school ground-and-pound approach. It's fathomable they call 'run' around 55% of the time.
Undoubtedly, barring injury, Breece Hall will establish the pace in total backfield touches. The multidimensional veteran, however, could be creatively deployed often as a receiver, elevating Allen's snap and overall opportunity shares. The sophomore back registering roughly 10-12 touches per game is a distinct possibility.
Allen's secondary analytics from his rookie season combined with an unattractive projected fantasy strength of schedule (RB20) do increase pessimism. However, his ultra cheap ADP makes him a late-round dart throw worth taking. If everything clicks, he could land inside the RB top-30 in 0.5 PPR formats.
Buy a ticket.
Prop pick - Justin Fields OVER 650.5 rush yards (-110, DraftKings) - Limber up, Justin. For the sake of this degenerate gambler's wallet, your pregame stretch routine is of utmost importance.
Back under center as the starter, Fields is sure to scramble. Whether on unscripted sprints or designed RPOs, the opportunistic open-field runner is bound to get back to what he displayed previously in Chicago. Recall in 2022 and 2023 he ran for 1,143 and 657 yards respectively. And those numbers were achieved missing at least two games in each season.
As displayed in his first preseason game against Green Bay, Fields is about to tap back into his extraordinary duality. On his lone drive, he galloped into the end-zone on a 13-yard scamper. He also looked sharp vertically, completing 3-of-4 passes for 42 yards. No surprise, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn showered him with praise post-game.
Jets offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand won't apply restraints on his run-happy passer. Expect Fields to push Lamar Jackson, Jayden Daniels and Jalen Hurts for the QB rush yards title, possibly calling his own number some 160-165 times.
When the curtain falls on the 2025 season, seeing 800+ ground yards next to the former Buckeye's name is completely believable.
Team lean - Jets OVER 5.5 regular season wins (+110, BetMGM) - With a first-year head coach, question marks surrounding the offensive line and uncertainties elsewhere, the J-E-T-S may not reach stratospheric heights.
ESPN's Mike Clay prognosticates 6.7 victories for New York this season, giving it a 45% or greater win probability in six contests. It's an optimistic view, but a half dozen triumphs are definitely within the tight range of outcomes.
With Fields, a strong stable of RBs and sure-fire WR1 in Garrett Wilson on roster, positive feelings are warranted. NYJ's above average defense only adds to the argument.
Go 2-2 in what should be hotly contested home matchups against the Cowboys (Week 5), Falcons (Week 13), Dolphins (Week 14) and Patriots (Week 17) and backers will cash at plus odds -- this dolt included.
