Carolina Hurricanes (32-17-4) at Winnipeg Jets (37-14-3)
Date: Tuesday, February 4
Time: 8 p.m. ET
I’m angrier than usual with Vegas after the Golden Knights blew a 3-1 lead last Tuesday in a 4-3 overtime defeat to the Dallas Stars.
Losing a bet is one thing. Mark Stone “tripping” into Miro Heiskanen’s knee is another. I wish nothing but bad things for that franchise.

The pick — Jets ML (+100, BetMGM)
The Hurricanes made a big splash last week when they acquired Taylor Hall and Mikko Rantanen as part of a three-team trade that sent shock waves throughout the NHL. Carolina is 2-1-0 since both players have been on the ice as it tries to chase down Washington for the Metropolitan Division lead.
All the Jets have done this season is be the best team in hockey. With an NHL-best 77 points, they have been a model of consistency, producing two seven-game win streaks. Winnipeg could have a third when it seeks a seventh-straight victory against the Hurricanes.
That’s why I like the home side in this game. Carolina will be formidable in the postseason, but it’s still trying to figure it out with the new pieces.
Season record: 16-16-2, +1.6 units
