Hopefully, the holiday break has cleared my head and I can head into the new year on a hot streak with a Metro Division clash.
The Devils come back from the short Christmas break having won five of their last six contests, including home shutout victories against the Penguins (3-0) and Rangers (5-0).
New Jersey hasn’t conceded a non-empty net goal since the second period of a Dec. 19 loss in Columbus. The Hurricanes, meanwhile, have had an up and down month that has seen them fall into third place of the division behind both the Devils and Capitals.
I like the under six goals in this one, since both teams are trending in that direction. New Jersey hasn’t been involved in a December game that had more than six combined goals. The Devils’ last over on this total was Nov. 30, so the holiday season hasn’t exactly brought out their generosity.
While Carolina was over this total in Monday’s 5-2 loss at Nashville, it had been under this mark in its previous six contests.
Friday’s game is apart of a back-to-back home-and-home for the Canes and Devils, so the best goalkeeper for each squad will likely play.
