This was supposed to be a matchup between the eventual top goal scorer of all time against this season’s rookie leader in goals. However, Washington star Alex Ovechkin fractured his left fibula two weeks ago to put his pursuit of Wayne Gretzky’s all-time record of 894 goals on hold.
Celebrini, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, has been on an absolute tear since returning from a hip injury. The Sharks rookie phenom has registered four goals and seven points in his last four games, and he’s looking every bit of the player who was tabbed to take the league by storm.
The Capitals have won four straight games, but they also have allowed 14 goals during the win streak, including 13 in their last three contests.
I expect goals to be plentiful Tuesday at Capital One Arena, as both teams have been playing some high-scoring affairs. The over on 6.5 total goals at +110 isn’t a bad play either.
